Denton Infection Tracker

Name: Denton Dent, can't remember his old name
Nickname: Whatever you want to call him
Age: 5 years
Gender: Male
Breed: Pharaoh Hound/Whippet/Flat Coated Retriever Mix (PH dominant)
Rank: Loner

Appearance:
 - Height: 22.8” - 57.912 cm
 - Weight: 35 lbs - 15.8757 kg
 - Voice: Like Ash Ketchum HERE
(the first bit is enough to get an idea of his voice)

Personality: *Used to Be Truly Good-Slowly Corrupting* | Lonely | Depressed | *"Hopeful"* | Paranoid | *Determined*
- Slowly Corrupting || The paranoia is getting to him and those he wished to befriend in the past are only cause for suspicion now. He might be willing to trust someone but they would have to work really hard for it. At this point there are few that would dare approach who are still sane themselves.
- Lonely || The separation anxiety that he suffered from mildly in Eden has only gotten worse in the Wastes, though he dares not get close to any other infected or even convoys, no longer tempted by the passing glint of a gasmask. It's not uncommon for him to search out a place to hide so that he can ride out the panic attacks, but that doesn't mean he's gotten better at controlling that sort of thing.
- Depressed || When he first entered the Wastes on his hare brained venture he was filled with hope but that hope has slowly darkened to resigned depression, especially when he thinks about how little progress he's made over the past two years. This depression is becoming more controlling, and he's starting to lose hope of things ever getting better. His depression has compounded his panic attacks, and the few thoughts that he has tend to turn him into a blubbering mess of drool and bile.
- "Hopeful" || He has to retain hope otherwise he'll just give up completely. Even through the depression there's a flicker that he might be able to find someone. He's quickly losing the ability to deny the depression's existence, something that he once regarded with the greatest fear.
- Paranoid || His initial paranoia has only gotten worse with his infection, starting to feel like there are things out to get him if he doesn't keep moving.
- Determined || He is determined to find someone willing to help, and that determination, along with the hope of success, keeps him going. What would have been called dedication to duty in Eden is just plain old determination out in the Wastes, and he's just as serious about doing this as he ever was about his scowner duties. It's all he has left.

Strengths: Speed | Hypervigilance | Chronic Denial
- Speed || Denton can run incredibly fast and has some good stamina. This speed has saved his life more than once. Before his father left he would joke around with Denton's mother, claiming that she had had an affair with a greyhound to give their son such a build.
- Hypervigilance || Thanks to the Infection he's got all of his senses on overdrive, and can notice all sorts of things that normally would remain invisible. Also, due to the pharaoh hound blood he gained from his father, Denton has amazing sight. He can spot things long before most other dogs could even see it, though he's losing the ability to tell whether or not it's a threat from a distance, giving in to paranoia instead.
- Chronic Denial || While some might not see this as a strength, for Denton it is an incredible asset. Without this he would be more likely to lose himself to various psychoses, not including the one that's brought on by the Infection itself. It keeps him hopeful and staves off the crippling depression and paranoia.

Flaws/Weaknesses: Hypervigilance | Separation Anxiety | Clumsiness
- Hypervigilance || This is both a blessing and a curse. Obviously the blessing bit is stated above, but sometimes the more diseased aspects kick in, and he notices things that are unimportant, such as some gravel falling down the side of a wreckage. This results in a high likelihood of becoming a "boy who cried wolf", often resulting in a paranoia-induced fleeing of the location.
- Separation Anxiety || If Denton lets the the defensive denial of his alone status fall apart it can spell disaster, since his anxiety attacks are debilitating. The only way to speed them up is to cause lots of noise or have another dog there, and sometimes he makes noise regardless of his conscious wishes. No matter what, his breathing becomes even more uncontrolled (almost to the point of hyperventilation), he starts to blink rapidly, and he whines and/or whimpers throughout the entire attack. He has also started sobbing during his attacks, becoming incredibly loud and noticeable.
- Clumsiness || Something that's only gotten worse with the Infection, if he tries running too fast over any sort of uneven terrain he is likely to trip on something since he focuses on running fast instead of placing his feet safely. And when he trips it's not just a slight stagger, it's a full out sprawling on his face, occasionally even sending him flying forward. It can take him about a minute or two to recover enough to keep running.

Biography:
*Happened after Denton was first introduced
- Family Life || Growing up, Denton and his small family were happy. Even though his siblings died before he could start to remember their faces, Denton was strong and spirited. His mother tended to the shack and would occasionally assist the mask maker, whoever it was at the time, with making dyes. His father, on the other paw, was fairly well known as a great hawker, his pharaoh hound blood granting him strong sight, an ability that is priceless when scent is disabled by a convoy mask. Whenever his father would go out on an assignment Denton of course would stay home, excited for when his dad would come back. During this time his mother would teach him all about how to stay positive no matter what, even when you were forcing yourself to smile.
- Absent Father || On a routine trip Denton's father was ambushed while getting scrap metal. It was just a small terrier, but a lazy scowner (taking a nap) had let the little infected monster through and it attacked Denton's father, successfully landing a bite. It wasn't a large bite, but when Denton's father reported back to the convoy with that bite wound, they had no choice but to follow protocol. He managed to keep it together until they reached the holding chambers, but he couldn't hide the trickle of blood coming from the corner of his mouth, and they exiled him.
- Momma, What's Going On? || For some reason the convoy leader had neglected to tell Denton's mother that her mate was being exiled until he was long gone, so when the authoritative canine came to their door that night, she collapsed. She knew what had happened without him saying a word, and when he started off by saying, "I'm so sorry," she lost it. Wailing in grief, it didn't matter if Denton's father had survived or not because he was dead to Eden and that meant she would never see him again, since she would never step foot outside of the safety of the Eden walls. Denton was confused and asked the leader what had happened and the leader explained. Denton, even though he was only 8 months old at that point, grew up very fast that night, the responsibility of his grief stricken mother and himself thrust upon him.
- I'm Going to be the Very Best || As soon as Denton heard of the cause of his father's ambush he vowed to never let that happen to any other dog and immediately started apprenticing to become a scowner. It was tough, especially since his mother had come a little unhinged, so he often had to split his time between taking care of her and his training. It was discovered that he shared his father's vision, and excelled throughout his studies and tests, getting on the convoy rotation as fast as he could. While on a regular convoy trip he had become separated from the group and met Ramses, an exile that kindly helped Denton survive a panic attack brought on by his separation anxiety.
*- Mother, You're Mad || Denton's mother "recovered" from her grief, only to replace it with denial. Constant denial that his father was gone, denial that Denton was going out on convoy missions, denial of anything that had to do with the infection or his father. At first it was merely irritating, but as she continued insisting that his father was going to come home any day it was absolutely maddening. After a few solid months of this, Denton lost it and, in a fit of anger, strapped on his mask and left Eden to go find his father.
*- The Search || Denton quickly realized that he had gone rogue, but it was still too late. His mask had broken, and he had been breathing in the infected air for about an hour before he had realized his predicament. Knowing that he couldn't go back to Eden now, he decided that his mother needed to take care of herself and that he still needed to find his father. Perhaps dear ol' dad would be able to help him survive in this desolate waste. In an act of acceptance, Denton took off his mask and took a deep breath of the infected air.
It was with this that Denton began a tireless search for any trace of his father, or, in the back of his mind, Ramses. And if Ramses could help Denton locate his father, all the better.
*- One Year Later... || Filled with paranoia, Denton has had to focus on his objectives or risk completely losing his mind. His descent into madness the Infection was slow and steady at first, his training from being in the convoy making the infection progress slowly, only the air and water and food infecting his blood. But in the Wastelands fights are inevitable, and, in much the same way as his father was infected, Denton was ambushed by a small terrier-like dog while getting something to eat. The terrier made the mistake of barking as it lunged at Denton and so the only true injury it landed was on his thigh, since Denton had started to run as soon as he heard it. This, however, meant that the Infection that had slowly been progressing through his veins was accelerated, pushing his body past the first stage of the infection into the second and almost to the third. At this point in time he has found himself sheltering in an abandoned house in the middle of nowhere, halfway between Eden and the city. It allows him to not only hide beneath the floorboards whenever a bigger infected comes around, but he also gets food visitors that try to do the same

Chronicles: (Post-Biography History)

- A Friend? || There was a brief moment where Denton knew a dog named Zayif but...once they got to the city Zayif disappeared. Denton still isn't sure where Zayif went, and is starting to have difficulties remembering the faces of any dogs in particular.
- Alone || Never before has Denton felt so alone. He is starting to be just a big bundle of paranoia, fleeing from most dogs in the city. Somehow he's avoided being roped into a pack, though it wouldn't be hard to trap him. Who knows what he'd be willing to let happen to him so long as it means his survival.

RP Example:
Keeping an eye out was one of Denton's specialties, even when the convoy was on the move. He had to pay attention to the smallest details, especially if he wanted to live up to his goal of being the best scowner ever. Regardless of where they were or what they were doing, he had to keep a lookout. That meant constant looking around; up, down, left, right, and (most importantly) over the shoulder.
Little things like the skitter of pebbles beneath the convoy's feet or birds flying far overhead kept drawing his attention but he was doing his absolute best to concentrate on the task at hand: walk and keep watching. In fact...he checks over his shoulder one more time to make sure that he is actually seeing movement of something important for once.
Sure enough, moving down the hill they had just passed, there was a dog. Denton's ears swivel forward, pointing straight forward. A white-ish dog from the looks of it. His head tilts to the side and lowers a bit as he tries to look closer. A white-ish dog without a mask. That realization flattens his ears to his skull, but whether in fear or worry or anger, not even Denton knows. The dog seemed to be fretting over something, that much was clear to Denton's sharp eyes even from the large distance.
Without realizing it, he had stopped moving forward with the rest of the convoy, the other dogs continuing on their mission to get materials safely from the old ruins. A strange feeling of conflict swelled within Denton as he tries to reason with himself between going off after this waster and sticking with the convoy and doing his job. Unless he'd be doing his job by going after this dog. He knew that he could run fast enough to get away, and he'd be too small of a target to take down too easily. Besides, it was clear that this waster was spying on the convoy, maybe it was a raider that wanted to know the ins and outs of the Eden dogs to better ambush them. I've gotta take care of this. I'll sneak up on it, question it real quick, and if things get hairy then I'll run away back to the convoy.
He begins to stride forward, taking as long of strides as he can while still walking, wanting to get to the waster quickly, ears and head down, tail up slightly, waving with his movements.

~Excerpt from Roots Unsevered

Other:

- His separation anxiety will be unlikely to show up in any rps unless his chronic denial fails him. It will mostly be seen in stand-alone pieces of art
- His fur is straight and silky, like the flat coated retriever, though only if he takes care of it. In the Wastes he's let his fur care go, so he's pretty mangy and his fur is caked with dirt and matted and a bit stiff. He's not a clean dog at all.
- He's very skinny, and with his fur starting to fall out from stress it's even more obvious. In the Wastes he's pretty underfed, especially considering his relatively high metabolism. He needs to eat a lot. If he had anyone he was spending time with he'd be willing to share food but as a loner he's selfish with any food he can get for himself.
- He shares the blushing trait of the pharaoh hound with his dad, where his inner ears and nose will flush pink when he's excited or happy. It doesn't always happen, only when he's feeling the extremes of these emotions. But when it does he's a cute little mofo. His skin is paler than it was before as well, so this blushing is even more obvious.
- Facial brindling matters, so please keep it consistent. 3 stripes behind the eyes, 2 stripes in front, a stripe from the corner of his eye and a stripe underneath the eye. See the image/his previous app for details.
- Body brindling doesn't matter, so long as there are about 20 stripes within the brown part of his body.
- He constantly feels "itchy" even though there's no reason, and scratches himself a lot. This causes fur to fall out on the spots where he scratches most, like his neck.
- If he lets himself stagnate too long he will lose the motivation to go do things like get water and food. To be completely honest he's most likely to die of the infection itself or just plain old starvation and/or dehydration.
- Currently he is dwelling: Under the floorboards of the random house right smack dab in the middle of 6, 7, 8, and 11 on the Wasteland Map. He gets his water from rainfall or from the Fetid Creek at number 7. He gets food from whatever he can catch and kill that either tries to shelter with him in the house or is walking by. He is now at the city outskirts, what happens next is to be determined by who interacts with him and brings him into their pack.
